The Cryogenic Suspension EP is the new EP from Snakestyle (a.k.a. Matthew Leigh Embleton) with 4 tracks of spaced out electronic grooves, partly recorded at Silver Shark Studios in London. Snakestyle's analogue infused synth textures and atmospheric sounds roll out over irrisistable rhythms and bring to life images of fusions between ever advancing technology and human beings. The title track 'Cryogenic Suspension' burbles and whirrs to life introducing a chilled-out beat, layered with punctuated melodic phrases and fuzzy fusions of analogue and digital sound, suggesting cold temperatures and scientific processes to the ears and the mind's eye. The next track 'Downtime Interface' begins with the sound of a strange mechanical device that announces the arrival of sequenced analogue percussion, cross-rhythm ostinatos, and laid back riffed melody, the rhythm intensifies and locks in the listener for the journey through glistening synthesis. 'Electrical Storm' follows with haunting chords that suggest that something is in the air, a storm is coming. The rhythm and melody hold the listener's concentration and provide steady and reassuring progress through this atmospheric turbulence, navigating through the storm. The call and response between the turbulence of the sky and the melodic internal dialogue of the listener give way to a relaxed state. 'Hallucination' is a sonic imagining of radio interference signalling the arrival of magical energies, and the opening of a door in the mind, releasing memories from the subconscious into the present.

Track 02 And That Is Why - 05:00

The Controlled Descent EP is the latest offering from Snakestyle (a.k.a. Matthew Leigh Embleton) featuring 4 tracks of finely-crafted electronica, the result of initial recordings made at the synth room at Silver Shark Studios in London. Trademark crunchy analogue beats, deep warm bass, and shimmering atmospherics fused with digital and analogue modular synthesis bring to life retro-futuristic imagery and visions of an artificially intelligent future. The title track 'Controlled Descent' contemplates an ever increasing role for artificial intelligence in the field of space exploration with an imagined successful automated touchdown on the surface of Mars with ever decreasing human supervision. The second track 'And That Is Why' explores the concept of logic and machine learning, with the sounds of specially designed machines whirring to life to observe the many patterns that exist in human behaviour and interaction. The third track 'Low Winter Sun' describes the human solitude and isolation that exists in remote areas of extreme cold, and how it affects human relationships with nature in moments of contemplation. The last track 'The Muse' is a description of a sudden rush of creative energy following the inspiration that can arise from a single sound.

23/09/2021 - Holotropic Happy Hour, featuring Snakestyle, with visuals by Bluetech
"The Holotropic Family presents the Holotropic Happy Hour, a 2 hour audiovisual show of electronic music, experimental film and animation and the friendliest chat on the internet. Two airings - Wednesdays 5-7pm PDT (early Thursday morning 1-3am GMT) and again Thursdays 9-11am PDT (5-7pm GMT), to make it easier for those in other time zones to participate. The show is free, but you will need a registered Twitch profile to chat. This week's show welcomes the HHH debut of dub producer Snakestyle (aka Matthew Leigh Embleton), with visuals by Bluetech. Musically self taught primarily on percussion and piano from a young age, Snakestyle's music is primarily driven by systematically detailed auditory descriptions of instincts, and deep emotions of reflection and contemplation, on the outside of the world looking in. He has also composed classical music for lute, guitar, piano, flute, and recorder, and as well as being self-published, his compositions have been published by the Lute Society of America, The Lute Society (UK), Il Societa del Liuto (Italy). He also performed 'Music for Lute and Laptop' at the Dutch Early Music Festival in September 2013. When he's not making music, Matthew is also a history and language enthusiast, publishing books about the history of opium, runes and other magical symbols, pirates, and translations of old norse Icelandic Sagas into English."

"Snakestyle's 'Dynamic Memory EP' is a fusion of Matthew Leigh Embleton's strong influences from the original pioneers of electronic music, while simultaneously pushing forwards with his uniquely detailed visionary soundscape. The opening title track sings of intense and emotional electronic memories washing over our ears. This is followed by 'Reflections' which continues the theme of memory and reflection, but from a darker perspective. The third track 'Last Night in Rome' submerges the imaginative listener in a journey in and out of the ancient city. Finally, the EP ends with 'Symmetrical Glide', which is at once retro electro, but with a modern sonic twist. Frequently described as potential film music, this EP serves up the best of Snakestyle's legendary widescreen electronica for all to hear".

"You are made to feel as though you are on one of those great waterslides that starts off slowly. Then you are scooped up, every twist and every turn revealing a new, unexpected and very welcome sensation.
You give each track a wee bit of your own personality, because you kind of feel you have to. You end up going places in your head as you are listening to the album, creating your own characters and your own little mini dramas to meet up with each note.
I say that with my tongue in my cheek, however. This is a very slow and sinuous album. It is full of icy peaks and then lots of nice long smooth bits before the next slide and peak smacks you right by surprise."

"There's a real, resounding eerieness which lies beneath the sound here. It's very unsettling but quite exciting at the same time and really draws you into the heart of the music, telling you that these are dark and stormy waters into which you are being drawn.
The overall smoothness of the sound really helps, some beats which are almost balearic chiming with the bass to get the heart pumping and the stomach a-stirring.
But all this would mean nothing without the beautiful vocals which sit on top of everything else. Coming on as a bit of a cross between Michael Stipe and Aretha Franklin, the words are rarely fully heard but the emotions always fully expressed, which makes this oddly perfect winter listening."
12/12/2011 - Snakestyle - Snakestyle World Radio (Alex Tronic Records)
"The closest definition or genre one can come up with for an album such as this is club rock. Clubbers love their music pummeling and upfront. Rockers love their music brutal and basic. What both audiences love is that very basic primal urge to just shed off all society's inhibitions and dance. It is rare, in these days of 'Pop Idol' homogeny, to hear such a spiky and dynamic record, with such a personality all of its own.
This disc has quite clearly got both an agenda and an objective mind all of its own. And is all the better for it. Rather than being a collection of sounds or singles, this record has quite clearly been constructed as some kind of aural soundscape, to be slowly digested as all the sounds and flavours leak out into your system, poisoning and purifying you at the same time. Close your eyes when listening to it and memories and images will welcomingly mingle inside you.
It will be there for you in your hour of need. It is both comfort blanket and bedrock, just like all the best music should be. And it has a real blade of ice at its centre."
